Current Reading: Living with Himalayan Masters

Learning from the one and only swami rama, the
Himalayas is a place of the great spiritual sages of the world.  Rather than being raised by his mother and father, Swami Rama was raised by one, his master 20,000 feet up in the magnificent Himalayas bordering Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, Sikim, Kashmir, and Tibet.  Swami shares his real life learning experiences from his young age up until his spirit leaves his body.

What I absolutely love about this book (only read the first few chapters) is the focus on the REAL LIFE, LEARNING EXPERIENCE. This is what I am basing my theories on-the American culture having the education through books, but lacking this fundamental necessity-education through REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE/LEARNING FROM THE ENVIRONMENT AND HANDS ON CULTURAL EXCHANGE. PRIS

IN THE HIMALAYAS, PEOPLE ARE HIGHLY EDUCATED, BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE FORMAL EDUCATION.  THEY LEARN FROM PRIESTS AND HAVE A SYSTEM OF EDUCATION THAT DEVELOPS THEM INTO PURE, GENTLE SOULS. THEY ARE UNTAINTED BY THE OUTSIDE WORLD. THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT HATRED AND GREED ARE AND THEY DO NOT DESIRE TO LEARN ABOUT THESE THINGS.

The swami says one could leave their bag on the mountain for weeks and no one would touch the bag.  The people do not believe in touching things that are not their own and they also do not have a need for someone else’s belonging.

A developed society creates greed and people to believe that they need things, which they do not really need.  WHAT THE SWAMI SAYS IS HUMAN BEINGS ARE “OVERCULTURED.”

“The modern human being has weakened himself and his human nature by culturing it again and again losing touch with nature and reality.” SWAMI

More to come from this amazing book-stay posted!
